We will be closed for Remembrance Day on November 11th
The optical prescription measured in your eye examination, your occupation, and your lifestyle activities are factors that your optometrist will consider in recommending the most appropriate spectacle lens amongst the many lens types available to maximize your vision.
A patient’s visual performance of their eyewear depends just as much on the quality and fit of the eyewear as it does on the thoroughness of the eye examination. We recommend that if your examination reveals a need for eyewear, in order to achieve maximum visual clarity and comfort that you order your eyewear through our dispensary.
The results of your eye examination and the recommendations made by your eye doctor are directly communicated to our optometric assistants and certified ophthalmic dispenser to provide you with the best possible visual outcome and comfort for your vision.
Only your Optometrist has the knowledge of your visual capabilities and needs and can communicate this directly with our dispensary staff. This unique knowledge and benefit is lost when the patient purchases eyewear elsewhere. In today’s society of self-serve purchasing (i.e. the internet), proper eyewear fitting cannot be performed. Our certified ophthalmic dispenser and optometric assistants will assist you in choosing a frame from amongst the over 1400 frames we have on display in our dispensary that will accommodate your prescription and compliment your sense of style and lifestyle.
Contact lenses are not only an optical correction option but also a medical device. They provide a number of benefits from wearing eye glasses in a variety of situations, i.e. sports, occupation, cosmetics, etc.
Patients interested in wearing contact lenses must undergo a complete eye examination for the optometrist to evaluate whether or not the patient is a candidate for contact lens wear considering the patient’s optical prescription, eye health, occupation, and lifestyle.
Once a patient is deemed a successful candidate, our optometric assistants will teach you how to properly insert, remove, and care for your contact lenses. Your optometrist will then perform a professional assessment to determine the contact lenses’ physical fit on the eye and your level of vision and comfort with the contact lens. Our professional contact lens fitting fee includes all of these aspects of contact lens wear as well as follow-up care depending on the level of care you choose.
Contact lenses are a medical device and by their very nature, they are a barrier to the flow of oxygen to your cornea. For this reason, improperly fitted and/or care of contact lenses can potentially cause serious adverse health effects to the cornea and eye.
Drs. Popick and Caines recommend new contact lens wearers choose a fitting package that has frequent follow-up care in the first 6 months. Existing contact lens wearers should have annual complete eye examinations.
Numerous refractive surgery options exist including Laser Refractive Surgery (intralase LASIK, LASIK and PRK), Intraocular Contact Lenses, Refractive Lens Exchange, and Radial Keratotomy. Drs. Popick and Caines provide consultations for patients interested in refractive surgery.
We will evaluate your optical prescription, eye shape characteristics, eye health, lifestyle, and post-surgery vision expectations to determine your candidacy for this elective procedure.
Refractive surgery is suitable for patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism prescriptions. Refractive surgery does not always eliminate the need for spectacles or contact lenses, but minimizes the patient’s dependency on them.
Drs. Popick and Caines are associated with the Horizon Laser Vision Centers in Regina and Saskatoon. If you are interested in this exciting mode of vision correction, please ask your optometrist for more information. We also encourage you to visit the Horizon Laser Vision Center website for additional information.
Our optometrists will also refer you to other well-established Refractive Surgery Centers at your request for vision correction. We will also perform your post-operative care and communicate these results with your surgical center.
Drs. Popick and Caines are licensed to prescribed topical ocular medications to treat various eye infections and inflammations. The Canadian Association of Optometrists Eye Library provides information on numerous eye conditions and diseases.
A small number of patients experience eye coordination deficiencies that can result in eye strain, headaches, difficulties focusing at one distance (either distance or near), and poor concentration. Treatment of this condition involves eye exercises to improve eye coordination. Your optometrist will prescribe take home exercises and will monitor the patient’s progress with periodic progress checks.
Detection of certain eye diseases and conditions may require a referral to an ophthalmologist (eye surgeon) and/or a general physician. Your optometrist will work with you to make a timely referral to the most appropriate medical professional depending on your diagnosis.
As part of our commitment to providing our patients with continued eye care, Drs. Popick and Caines will recommend when your next eye examination should be scheduled. We reference the guidelines recommended by the Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists. Our office will send you an email or mail recall cards to you as a reminder of your next appointment.
